Maybank Scholarship Awards - Overview
The Maybank Scholarship Award is central to our educational initiatives and an essential part of the Group’s human capital development programme. The Scholarship Award was established in 1972, and, to date, we have sponsored over 1,000 bright youngsters.

In 2010, we provided partial scholarships for 175 scholars to pursue tertiary education in our local premier universities and selected private institutions of higher learning. Each receives an annual grant of RM9,000 as well as a laptop computer and mentoring programmes in preparation for eventual employment in the Maybank Group. We have allocated over RM1.8 million for this programme.

In 2011, at a cost of RM3.54 million, for the first time we presented 27 full Scholarship Awards to sponsor studies at top universities overseas. The scholarship covers all tuition fees and living allowances, and provides supplementary mentoring programmes to sharpen graduates’ competitive edge when they embark on their Maybank careers.

We select students from a range of disciplines that will support the diverse business needs of the Maybank Group, bringing diversity to our scholarship programme and enriching our human capital pool.

Twenty students, selected from over 800 applicants, were awarded full scholarships under this scheme to pursue their education at universities such as Imperial College, the London School of Economics, the University of Chicago and the University of Melbourne.

On 23 March 2012, we have awarded the scholarship to 19 young Maybank Foundation scholars who were successful from amongst the 1,000 applications that were received. Since the scholarship started in 1972, we have sponsored over 1,000 bright individuals, giving each of them an opportunity to fulfill their dreams of studying at leading universities and an exciting career with the No 1 Bank in Malaysia and soon-to-be a regional financial services leader. This year again, we are pleased to make dreams come true for our young achievers as well as mark the 40th year of our scholarship with another milestone to our Scholarship Award scheme.

Maybank Scholarship Description

The scholarship awards incorporate the Bank’s CSR philosophy of ‘Growing with Responsibility’, assisting those who excel to complete their tertiary studies and pursue a career with the nation’s largest financial services group.

Maybank Scholarship Interview Experience - First Round Interview
The first round of the Maybank scholarship selection process is actually done online. All you have to do is wait for the email which has the official link that will direct you to your online test. The test, as far as what I have seen comprises of a set of critical thinking questions, diagrammatic, mathematical and language based (a difficult English and Maths objective paper I guess) . For the diagrammatic section, you would be required to determine patterns and orders of shapes based on logical reasoning (quite tricky).

I suggest that you try some practice questions online. Just Google “critical thinking shapes test” or something like that and I am sure you will end up somewhere helpful. The tests are of course timed. So make sure that you have everything you need with you including your calculator before you click the start button.

(I myself randomly answered a few questions because it was just freaking hard). But just keep your fingers crossed and hope for the best guys. It’s very possible with a lot of luck and perseverance.

Maybank Scholarship Interview Experience - Second Round Interview
The second round of the Maybank scholarship selection process was held in the Menara Maybank, Kuala Lumpur. It was a huge building and “round 2” was held on the 44th floor. Wow. Upon registration, I was given a task to write an essay with the title “Why do you deserve the Maybank scholarship” in less than 120 words. The time allocated was about 40 minutes. I found myself accompanied by 5 other silent people writing the same thing as well.

40 minutes later, my essay was collected and I was told to go into a small discussion room where I found myself sitting with two Maybank officials. I greeted them warmly and with a smile they told me to introduce myself. They then enquired deeply about the course that I applied for. Why and why not questions were thrown at me but it wasn’t such a big deal. I was then asked about my family’s financial background and if any of my siblings were already sponsored by Maybank. They also asked if my parents were Maybank employees. We than chatted casually a little once the serious talk were over. I was told about the number of scholarships given out per year and the perks of receiving this scholarship. (I was told because I asked). Within 2 hours, I was done and on my way back home. It was one of the most relaxing rounds of my scholarship hunt journey.

If at all you are short listed for the final round, a call will reach you in about a week. Good luck people! Be sure to check out the final rounds of the Maybank Scholarship selection process blog post if you have made it through. Take care.

at de frst page of de application form… it asks for preferred courses n univerity… is it applicable for all univerities in malaysia? can i fiil in de blank like ths/
preferred course 1: Asasi Sains University 1: Universiti Malaysia Sabah
preferred course 2: Asasi undang-undang University 2:Universiti Islam Antarabangsa

@amynamynhia the preferred course and university should be filled with the very specific course at the very specific university you are applying. For example, if you put

preferred course 1: Asasi Sains University 1: Universiti Malaysia Sabah

what you really imply here is you are applying Universiti Malaysia Sabah’s Asasi Sains

preferred course 2: Asasi undang-undang University 2:Universiti Islam Antarabangsa

what you really mean is you are applying Universiti Islam Antarabangsa’s Asasi undang-undang

Hope this clears your confusion. Good luck!

What if i already send the application form, and the preferred course i didnt put the courses that im applying. For example i choose overseas scholarship and i put courses that i didnt apply for?

Ooops @zettynurzulaikha, in that case, you will need to inform Maybank if you are called for the interview - but make sure you have a valid reason for doing so.

Otherwise, this can be a big minus point to your application since it can be a quite bad impression.

How would you answer if they (the interviewers from Maybank) ask “why did you put courses that you didn’t apply for?”

I just got to know about the scholarship recently. And I kinda missed the deadline. I heard about it on the dateline so I sent my details through Pos Laju the following day. So it would arrive 2 days after the deadline. Do you think my request would be entertained? If not, what other scholarships can I apply for? I got 9A+ and 2A’s in my SPM and I want to study Genetic Engineering. Thank you!

Hi @IAmCurious too bad that you have missed the deadline. You should definitely click here to enter your email to join the mailing list so that you get informed whenever a new scholarship is available.

Also, read this post for a list of current scholarships open for application.

50+ Scholarships for SPM and STPM Result Holders

Some are closing real soon while others close in April. Hurry~

May I know if the interview session for 2016 has been carried out or not?

Last year, the interviews were held sometime in April. Mine was on the 7th of April. Also I’m not sure what year Adam had his second session but mine was in 2015 and there was no essay question. After I had handed over my resume and certificates,I had to wait for a while and then had an interview. After the interview was over,I went back.

Hi @jerza4897

Maybank called me yesterday for 2nd round interview after the online assessment. OMG.
I was wondering maybe you could share more about your 2nd interview experience?
-Questions they asked?
-how did you produce your resume?
-any add-ons advice for me? hehe
-did you get the scholarship?

I really appreciate it if you could share your experience.

Sure,no problem. I still remember being so shocked when they actually called me. I thought I was dreaming.

Where’s your interview? Mine was in Penang.

My interview was really short, somewhere between five to ten minutes. There were two interviewers. They had my scholarship application form and they asked me about my co-curricular activities and if I had any experiences in leadership. Then, they asked why I wanted to study medicine and why I chose the two universities that I did. Besides that, they asked me why they should choose me. They also asked me simple stuff like how I arrived there since I had to travel from Kedah, about my family and my hobbies. When I said that I liked reading, one of them asked me what I was reading recently. I answered Game of Thrones and then he asked me if it was fun to read because he felt like giving it a try. They also asked if I had any family members working in Maybank. Oh,I almost forgot, they also asked why I needed a scholarship. If my memory serves me well, that should be all. I think questions about why you want to study whatever you chose and the scholarship are pretty standard questions. Anything else they might ask depends on the interviewers I think. I assume that they just want to get a feel of us and our motivations.

How did I produce my resume? I think you’re asking me how I did mine? Correct me if I’m wrong. One of my seniors e-mailed me theirs and I just edited it,including my information.

Add-on advice? I’d say just be comfortable and don’t get too nervous. You could try practicing beforehand with someone if you think it would help. I remember thinking I had totally screwed up my interview because I was so awkward but I did kinda make the interviewers laugh so maybe that left a good impression on them. So try making them laugh maybe? Smile a lot and just be yourself I think. Showing your confidence is good too although you shouldn’t come off as arrogant.

Surprisingly, I did get the scholarship. Good luck. I hope you pass the second stage and make it to the third stage.

If you have any questions, you could whatsapp me at 0174252758 since I don’t normally come online. You should take everything I say with a grain of salt though since I’m not really that much older than you. Good luck, again.

Ermmm…hi…i got the 2nd round iv for maybank scholarship next week…
i was superrrr nervous right now cause lots of things come to my mind…hmmm…

May I know,if I got this scholarship…

-did i have to pursue my studies at matrics first before entering the university??
-can i change the course i applied ??

I’m not sure if you can change the course that you applied. Maybe you should try calling the number in the email that you received to ask about that.

Pursuing your studies in matrics isn’t a must but normally before you can pursue your course you would have to do foundation or something before continuing to your preferred course. Like for me,since my scholarship is for medicine,I would need to do foundation in science before I could enter university for medicine. But since I had already enrolled in matrics by the time I got the scholarship,I decided to just finish my matrics first, then head to university.

Thank you so much for ur reply…but, may u shared ur resume because i dont know which format of resume should i use??
