Why is it important to wear a school uniform?

For certain schools, it is important that students wear a school uniform in order to maintain balance and order among the students. School uniforms help to eliminate bullying due to the fact that everyone is dressed the same and children cannot be teased for wearing something unusual or different. School uniforms are common in Malaysia and even private schools.

Alternatively, there are cases in which students and parents argue that school uniforms take away the student’s individuality and are an expensive cost for parents who send their children to public school for a free education. They also argue that school uniforms actually create a larger target for bullying, as students from other schools easily single out students in uniforms.

School uniforms are also useful for the school guards. As there are many students, the use of a uniform would enable easier identification. In some secondary schools, the ones in the higher forms are required to wear a pin or badge to indicate their seniority. Some schools also design different coloured name tags per form.
