Hello there, I would like to advice you on your studies. I have graduated secondary school last year and I don’t mean to brag but for your information I didn’t get straight As but 8As and 2Bs. I cannot guarantee that these would work as different people has different strategies but I hope these can help you.

REMEMBER THAT SOMETIMES THINGS ARE ROUGH AS FIRST.
Yes you just started Form4/Form5 and you’re exposed to the existence of the demon by the end of your Form5 called SPM. Everyone is telling you to do great in SPM or you won’t be accepted into a university then you would end up jobless. But right now you think youre doing terrible in your education but trust me IT HAPPENS. When I was in Form3 I got straight As for PMR but then in Form4 I failed my Modern Math, I have NEVER passed my Addmath, I managed to get a D in my Chemistry and a C in BM. I never got more than 2 As. Things didn’t get better till in Form5. But remember things DO GET BETTER. Yes in fact they do. Before anything you have to HAVE A POSITIVE MINDSET. Don’t dwell over your failures for too long it is NOT HEALTHY. LET IT GO. BLAST “LET IT GO” AND SING YOUR HEART OUT and when you start to feel all inspired THEN you start fighting again. -
DON’T ASSUME WHAT WORKS FOR YOUR FRIENDS WILL WORK FOR YOU TOO.
So your friends tells you that this magic drink they had for a month that managed to make them smarter or that they got A+ in addmath cuz they had study groups with their other friends and you believe that Oh if it worked for them maybe it would work for me. STOP RIGHT THERE DUDE. It doesn’t work that way; if it did by now my hair would be straight and silky like the models in those shampoo commercials and NOT curly and tangled. Study at your own paste. Remember there are many types of learners, you have to find out what kind of learner you are. Are you a visual, auditory or kinestatic learner? Or other than that. Take a few quizes online. When you find out THEN you would know how to study, google online. For me I can’t study without music, especially instrumental ones, they help help me focus. -
WHATEVER YOU DO DO NOT BE AFRAID TO ASK FOR HELP FROM YOUR TEACHERS.
Let’s face it sometimes we feel too embarassed to ask to the teacher about a question especially when all our friends understand the topic and we don’t so we pretend we understand it and “buat tak tau”. Luckily I had teachers who wouldn’t hesitate to invite anyone to see them after class or ask them for personal tutoring. I took account and I was awful in it but after all the help and extra attention from my teacher I managed to get an A. Same with Chemistry and Addmath. (No I didn’t get an A for addmath I got a B) So my advice is DON’T HESITATE TO ASK YOUR TEACHER FOR HELP. Pick a few questions from your workbook that has the parts of the topic you don’t understand and ask your teacher to teach you, preferable AFTER school or class. Teachers can come out as scary sometimes but they will be happy to help you as teachers they want their students to be successful in life. -
NEVER EVER EVERRRRR STUDY LAST MINUTE. EVER.
Why? Cuz it’s a bad idea. Cuz it will give you panic attacks. Cuz it will steal away your sleep. Cuz it will make you do badly in exams. Cuz it will give you headaches. Okay I get it you were busy with homework, projects, curriculum and etc to study, I was in your shoes, I did study last minute, I did get frustrated and yes I did end up getting bad grades. I don’t mean you should study 4hours per day EVERYDAY DAY. I mean you could shove in 1HOUR TO STUDY PER DAY, then after that you can do whatever you want. A subject per day, focus on your weakest subjects. My weakest subjects after I entered Form5 was Addmath(of course),Account and Physics, so I paid more attention to these subjects by studying them at least a week earlier. For medium subjects like History I usually read it before I sleep, or when I have trouble sleeping I would read history. If I wanna stay awake when I study History I make funny stories for the chapter. History is just stories of people who may or may not be already dead. For subjects I am strong at like English I study the day before,by studying I don’t mean learning something new 24 hours before your exam, I mean REVIEWING AND REFRESHING YOUR MEMORY ABOUT THE TOPIC.Whatever you do just don’t study last minute. -
GAIN GENERAL KNOWLEDGE. LET YOUR CREATIVITY BURST.
With more KBAT for your batch, I advise you to gain general knowledge about absolutely anything especially about wars , science etc. When I took SPM, I faced some funny questions, especially the one in Modern Math about Probability/Kebarangkalian where the question asks why 2 guys cannot be together. For Bio they asked us about wounds and cyanide. THAT IS WHY GENERAL KNOWLEDGE IS IMPORTANT.On my opinion KBAT is just a creative way of making your question LOOK difficult but actually they are almost like the questions you normally see. For example you normally see , 2 +2=4. But for KBAT they will be like, Ali had 2 apples, then he bought 4 more, but his ex girlfriend stole 3 of the apples. How many apples does Ali have? For addmath, Ali had 2 apples, then he decided to start an apple farm with 60 apple seeds. Calculate the distance between Ali and the Sun. For addmath I cannot help you sorry. -
GET EXTRA HELP OR DO EXTRA EXERCISES.
Some of my friends had multiple tuition classes throughout the week because they needed extra help with their education. I only started taking my first tuition classes in mid Form5 for Physics and Addmath every Friday as I didn’t get decent good results in them even after more than a year. If you think you need to get tuition, that is your choice and if your parents can afford them. Tuition isn’t a magical class that can turn your Cs in As, but you still have to work for it. DON’T JUST DAYDREAM, AIM FOR THOSE DREAMS AND SHOOT STRAIGHT TO THEM. But on my opinion I do recommend you to ask help from your school teachers. You should also do extra exercises on your subjects, try every question you can get you hands on. If you don’t want to invest too much on expensive exercise books try searching online for them or ask for used ones from your seniors. For addmath find this Youtuber he teachers addmath online it is very easy to understand, Y=mx+c is the name of his channel. As for formulas or anything I need to remember for a long period of time, I used to write them on sticky pads and stick them everywhere that I can see. I stuck them on my bedroom door, mirror, toilet door, fridge door, chairs, on desks, windows and anywhere stickable.
Those are the tips I can remember. Best of luck for your studies. If you work hard and ignore all the haters you will succeed . Goodluck
thanks for the advice fortunately , i take a tuition class for addmath 1 month already . ohh yaa , in SPM , can we use pencil to do the work for Addmath and modern math ?
Youre welcome. You are not advised to use pencils for Modern math or Addmath calculations as they can be accidentally erased or something I am not sure. Use NON GEL pens, gel pens can bleed if you accidentally got water on your paper.
I’m not confident in calculation using pen . So what should i do ? Sometimes , i need to erase the answers and no space left .
Hello there , for the pencil issue, you can practise doing a set of Math or Addmath paper(with the usual time limit like your real exam) with a pencil then when you are finished you can rewrite them with pens. It is very time consuming and troublesome. For me usually I try to use 1/3 of the space to do the calculations for the questions I am not confident with, so that when I realize the calculations are wrong I can cross the calculations out and rewrite it on the 2/3 space that is left.
Okayy i’ll try to do it Thanks btw senior .
