Oh snap! What to do during my term break?

Hello school leavers or students on semester break! I am sure you guys are currently enjoying your vacation after the torturous study, test, exam and endless burn oil in the midnight for a straight six or ten months. Oops! Too dramatic I guess. Trust me guys, you just enjoy the holidays for the first three weeks and then the boredom started to creep slowly into your head. Okay, in this topic, I will tell you how to kill the boredom during term break. Let`s kill it!

1. Finding a part time job

Seeking a job is common among students. Besides, you can earn your own money and you must know the job is suitable for you. If you prefer to know a vacancy available by just staying home rather than job hunting outside, you can just go to http://parttimejobs.malaysia-students.com/ .

2. Travel + Part time job

Do you know there is a program call Work and Holiday visa programme ? It is for people aged 18 to 30 who want to holiday and work in Australia for up to one year. Well, if your break is that long you can go but read the terms and condition first at http://www.malaysia.embassy.gov.au/klpr/work_holiday.html for more information.

3. Help with the house chores

Stop before you say Ahh so boring. Oh, you re already said it. Okay it might be this is so lame idea or come on, Ive got maids or whatever it is. Just remember that you guys wont stay in your parents house forever. You should be an independent person and you know at least, how to sweep the floor. Just do the basic house chores like wash the dishes or water the plant outside. At least you be a little helper to your parents or maid or chauffeur or butler whatsoever. They`ll like you more, trust me.

4. Exercise

This is for those who are not in the mood of seeking a job or doing house chores. Sit and do nothing in the house and gaining weight. If you are gaining weight just blame yourself for being so sluggish. Go outside and play some sports or jog around.

If you think all of my ideas are lame or you want to say " Hey, there`s more activity you can do either than this four", you can comment and voice out your opinion below this post. Thanks for reading!

I have an addition - read!
I know, after books and more books, most of us would loathe the very sight of books, but for those that love stories, it’s something to do, plus it helps with your control of the language (whichever of your preference). You might just enjoy yourself while learning along the way!

Another addition would be to learn something. It could be a musical instument e.g. guitar, or it could be a new language. Just make sure you are learning something you love, for example, don’t force youself to learn Spanish if you are not interested in the slightest, that will just make you grouchy, worsen your mood and ruin the holiday. On the other hand, taking up something you love, is different. Time will just fly, and learning is always beneficial, is it not?

Yes! I didnt thought of that! Thats brilliant. You can have fun while you learn. Who doesn`t love fun right? Aha! Thanks Dreams.

Have anyone thought of joining volunteer programmes? Do you have any recommendations?

I know volunteer program does not pay, instead sometimes we even need to fork out our own money to join them… Any good one out that you have joined? Can you please share your experience?

Five tips on how to spend your holidays wisely

  1. Enjoy the great outdoors by stepping out into the fresh air. It is a great opportunity for you to exercise and do any outdoor physical activity such as jogging and brisk-walking.
  2. Go for a vacation with your friends. Grab the opportunity to explore places that you have never been to. Plan well so that everything will run smoothly.
  3. Start a small business to make some money. For example, if you enjoy baking, you could sell your cookies and brownies to neighbours and friends. Do not be afraid to try new things.
  4. Join a volunteer group. Help out at the orphanage and old folks home. You can also help the needy ones by preparing food for them. For example, Kitchen Soup Project.
  5. Read at least one book. Choose a book that you are eager to read, something that will cheer you up. Reading is actually useful and fun.

Hey ong, before anything, i never joined any volunteer programmes. However, i have a friend whose currently studying Education course and she was asked to volunteer to teach students in high school even though her degree has not even finished yet. She told me that, there are pros and cons. Pros, is where she was able to gain experiences from it (including how to manage noisy students and mentor them). The cons is, as a volunteer, there would be no payment and its quite stressful. She is been a volunteering teacher for about 4 months. So you can imagine how it could be. Although, I am sure not all of her days are stressful though. There must be a happy moments from time to time and thats what makes a teacher to keep on teaching.

Regarding your question about volunteering programmes, you might go to SPCA there to do some volunteering works. Say first, I didn’t carry out volunteering works there before I just saw it accepts volunteers to help them to do some works from the official website. You can just surf in on Google. Good luck.

Thank you @Samantha and @sksk for your suggestions. I’m now considering to join Kechara Soup Kitchen (KSK) food distribution programme because it was very hot last year due to the government’s controversial enforcement. Are you based in KL / Selangor? Perhaps we can meet up and take part in the weekly Saturday night food distribution to the homeless

Oh wow! There’s food distribution programme? I never heard of that in Malaysia. It must be really interesting to have these kind of programmes to help those people who are in need right. I wished i could join in and help too. Too bad I’m not in West Malaysia. Tell me, KSK community has been going for how long now?

Yes. I agree you too. Since SPCA also needs a helping hand. Last time i went to SPCA, only few people who are really working there and so many animals to take care of (but to those who loves animals, this is your place where you can love them everyday). Although, they always open their door to make way for volunteers to come in though. If not volunteering, then donation would be generous too

Wow!! KSK food distribution programmes. Looks attractive. Wait I go Google search for more information. Hahaha. Unfortunately, I am not in Selangor and KL area. And, hope you can post more volunteering works, share with us!! I appreciate it very much. After joining the programme, share with us your experience there too.^^ Thanks haha

I’m working on writing a book…or hitting the stock market. Still trying to understand
the market terms though…:joy:

That sounds like a very exciting project. Can share more about what is the topic, fiction, non-fiction etc? By the way once you got all the content (writing) ready, you can try to sell it at different websites, like Amazon, Kindle, Apple AppStore, Google Play Store etc

Do share more with us when you progress, who knows we might be able to help with proofreading or even be your first customers  All the best!
