Scope of work: Members of the General Section represent forensic specialties in the areas of laboratory investigation, field investigation, clinical work, education and research, and other emerging forensic science disciplines. These individuals are employed or practicing in the following disciplines of forensic activity : Accounting, Archaeology, Art and Sculpting, Aviation/Land Vehicle Accident Investigation, Firearms Analysis, and countless others. The most common one is Death and Crime Scene Investigations.
Education and Experience: All members of the General Section must possess a bachelor’s degree. Many require a master’s or doctorate degree. Work experience varies with educational levels and specified a field of interest.
Career Opportunities: Many of the forensic scientists withing the General Section work for universities, police agencies, federal agencies and criminal investigation arms of the military forces and their support labs. Others work for coroners, medical examiners, hospital or law offices. Private companies are also employing many individuals.
