What are some tips to 'study smart'?

Avoid cramming in hourlong study sessions the day before. | It’s proven to be way more effective to spread your studying out into 30-minute sessions because our brain is better at encoding information in short repeated sessions.

Flashcards | Avoids the less important information and is proven to be excellent memory reinforcement tools.

Put away your phone and other electronic devices! | This is probably the most important one. Electronic devices are extremely distracting, and can make you spend an hour learning something that should only take 30 minutes because of the continuous interruption. Get off that Facebook and Snapchat! A way you could use your phone, though, is to have a countdown every 25 minutes and then reward yourself with 5 minutes of checking social media after you’ve to spend 25 minutes studying without distractions. (This can be seen in relation to point one to help you spread out the study sessions)

Study setting | Having dedicated a specific place for doing your studies well equipped with everything you might need primes your brain for studying.

Study time - when to study | Setting up a specific time for which you will study - ex. between 4–5 p.m. and you repeatedly study during those times, will create a routine, and over time the studying will become easier as your brain is trained to learn in those moments.
