I’ve compared video to text, but you can appropriately adapt it to whatever your current or default mode of teaching is (or you could view it as the case for multi-media learning versus just one medium:
Advantage:
-The possibility of using Verbal, Visual, and Non-verbal cues in communication (admittedly on 100% powerpoint webinars the non-verbal aspect isn’t available). Overall more flexibility in terms of communication. Each one of the 3 brings unique benefits to the education process and experience.
-Mirror real world. Replicate real world scenarios better versus text, visual, or just audio.
-Multi-modality. This is a user experience & education benefit.
-Theoretically more engaging.
-Probably higher perceived value. You might even feel better about the finished product.
-Precision & clarity that text doesn’t have.
-Demonstrations, demonstrations, demonstrations.
Challenges/Disadvantages:
-Time allotted.
-Money/Resources.
-Time to product/Learning curve of doing multi-media projects.
I think the disadvantages are real challenges. And once you get going shouldn’t be that big of a deal.
