What are the physical requirements for a crane operator?

According to Crane Institute Certification, a crane operator must meet minimum vision standards in each eye, be able to distinguish colors, have adequate hearing and have normal depth perception. The operator must also possess adequate strength and coordination to perform the job and have no tendencies toward dizziness. A crane operator also must be emotionally stable so as not to post a threat to the operator or others.

Crane operators need to pass a physical within 3 years of their hire date. If a prospective operator cannot pass a physical or drug test, or does not meet the health requirements, the person may be disqualified from operating a crane.
