Why should I still speak BM?

While most of us these days have disowned our national language and have devoted more time to learning other global languages, let’s think back for a second. It is absolutely wrong to do that. Why?

  1. It is our culture and national pride.
I doubt other countries could claim as being as free and versatile as us. We are a melting pot, and BM unites us all.

  2. Proof of versatility
Yes you will look cool if you speak perfect English. But what could it mean when you can’t even speak BM properly? If you can speak two or three languages well, it shows you are capable of higher-level thinking skills.

In addition, we use BM in government offices and other official papers. While we may not see it as a universal language, it is still important. Some citizens aren’t able to speak in English (common as it seems), so BM is used as the communicating language instead.

Malay is a beautiful, simple language. More than three nations know and use it. Its poetry is a thing even in Canada and America. Malay, if learned to a higher degree than “bahasa pasar” where Anjenk and Wehh, are used, you’ll start to see the beauty in it, and at that point, other reasons falter.

We learn English because its a market language. We learn malay because as malaysians its one of our roots. Learn chinese and you can travel, Tamil and half the world opens up.

Learn Malay and your home becomes much bigger than what you thought it once were
